I'll try to keep this as current as I can.  I am Michael Monroe Gollaher, webmaster and head cheer leader of the Clann O'Gallchobhair World-Wide.  I am very interested in your ideas, feedback and family stories.  If you are just dying to know more about me, you can go here to my site at www.Gollaher.net

•  All Clansmembers Offered FREE Homepage Space.

Tired of those free homepage sites that clutter up your family pages with banner ads, clutter your mail box with SPAM and continually try to sell you something?  Well, if you are a member of the Clann O'Gallchobhair, you are in luck.

Effective immediately, we are offering FREE server space for your family or personal homepages.  We will even host your business pages for only $10 per month.  At present there aren't even any annual dues to be a member of the clan!  And you can even have your own POP3 mail address, such as yourname@OGallagher.org or yourname@OGallchobhair.org.

At these prices I can't offer you any help in authoring your web pages, but I am extremely reasonable for members if you want to hire me.  There are no "catches" except that I must retain editorial control of the content of your pages to ensure no one tries to abuse the offer by posting obviously objectionable material.  If you are interested, write me here.

*GENEALOGY
A new genetic study indicates that only about 20 percent of European males descended from Neolithic farmers who dwelled in settlements like this one at Skara Brae, located in the Orkney Islands, Scotland.

•  DNA Study Traces Europeans Ancestry
WASHINGTON (AP) - Four out of five of the men in Europe shared a common male ancestor that lived as a primitive hunter on a wild continent some 40,000 years ago, researchers say.
•  European Common Ancestors Found
THE IRISH TIMES - Researchers have found that more than 95 per cent of all European males can trace their ancestry back to one of just 10 individuals.
•  10 Men Fathered Europe
DISCOVERY.COM NEWS - More than 95 percent of European men today descended from just 10 possible male ancestors, a new genetic study shows. Each of these father figures took part in one of three separate migrations that eventually populated the European continent.
•  LDS Church-Produced Booklet Could Make Genealogy Easier
STANDARDNET - A new pilot project being developed at the LDS Family History Library is hoped to vastly improve and streamline the way beginners do genealogical research.  An easy to follow, step-by-step research booklet on Danish genealogical records is being finalized and tested by staff members and volunteers at the library. The booklet is titled; "Denmark -- A Beginner's Guide to Library Research 1814-Early 1900s."
•  Y Molecular Genealogy Group Works On Worldwide Family Tree
BYU NEWSNET - BYU's Molecular Genealogy Research Group is conducting a study where collected DNA samples and written pedigrees are used to trace genealogical lines. The project is the next step towards completing a worldwide genealogy tree.  By looking at DNA markers, which are passed on from generation to generation, we can detect relationships that would otherwise be impossible to link through names and written pedigree charts. By taking samples from all over the world, the researchers hope to be able to tell people from which area of the world they originate. The worldwide project plans to reach 500 populations in the next five years.
•  The Human Family Tree: 10 Adams and 18 Eves
Geneticists, by tracing the DNA patterns found in people throughout the world, have now identified lineages descended from 10 sons of a genetic Adam and 18 daughters of Eve. The human genome is turning out to be a rich new archive for historians and prehistorians, one whose range extends from recent times to the dawn of human existence.

The biologist Edward O. Wilson, in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, mused that a new basis for spiritual values might be found -- not in the usual religious sources but in what he sees as the inspiring story of human origins and history.

"We need to create a new epic based on the origins of humanity," he said, adding: "Homo sapiens have had one hell of a history! And I am speaking both of deep history -- evolutionary, genetic history -- and then, added on to that and interacting with it, the cultural history recorded for the past 10,000 years or so."

*HISTORY
•  GALLAGHER-HISTORY Mail List
You may not know that a Clann O'Gallagher history mail list is available.  It is strictly for discussing clann history into the middle ages, typically around the mid seventh century and forward.  If you are interested, click on the headline above.
